The Moles kicked off the final week of the summer Sunday season with a chance to clinch the title in two derbies: the Danni-Ryan-Ash-Lucas Derby vs. Galacticos, and the “Teams with United in Their Names Derby” vs. Twin Castle United.
The Moles lined up 15 strong against the shorthanded Galacticos, along with bringing in new signing Clay for a pre-fall-season tune-up. Co-captain and manager Danni, clad in his forest green tracksuit, watched from the sidelines alongside newly appointed Set Piece Coach Ethan.
Billy kicked off the scoring with a sizzling shot in the bottom left corner, and Lucas hit the post three times in a first half that ended the game before it really ended. Up 5-0 at half time, Ricardo stepped into the outfield for the first time in his Moles career and ended up with a goal himself (!!) off of a slick first time finish around the penalty mark.
Griff added one more near the end to wrap up the procession and the Moles lifted the title once again. Congratulations to us!

In stark contrast to our friendly opponents in the first game, Twin Castle United set the tone for a tense match by neglecting to give the champions a guard of honor. After losing a runner at the back post and conceding to go down 0-1, the Moles fought back to bring it to 2-2 at halftime. The temperature dropped precipitously and Set Piece Coach Ethan nearly left because his tracksuit wasn’t warm enough. However, he is glad to have stayed as the second half featured incredible play from the Moles, including a volley (off of a throw-in!) from Phoebe, who has truly strapped on their scoring boots this season. Can’t spell Phoebe without B and O–Bangers Only.
Despite a chippy half that featured Miles being pushed into a chain link fence, the Moles showed their class and put three past the other, lesser United.
